The program included a tour of the Center for Instrumental Analysis and provided a valuable opportunity for research exchange. | |

| An article entitled “Paste-Press Packing Method for Through-Hole Loading to Fabricate Vertical Closed Bipolar Electrode Arrays and Micro-Rods,” with K. Kubota as the first author, was published in ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology. The newly developed paste-press packing (PPP) method enables reproducible loading of paste materials into microscale through-holes in thin membranes and provides a simple route to electrode arrays for bipolar electrochemical microscopy and to micro-rods. | |

| M1 student Suzuki received the Outstanding Poster Award at the 43rd Summer School of the Kanto Branch of The Electrochemical Society of Japan. Her presentation, “Development of an Electrochemiluminescence Transmission System from a Bipolar Electrode Array Probe for In Vivo Imaging of Intercellular Substance Dynamics,” investigated the transmission of electrochemiluminescence from a bipolar electrode array through an optical-fiber array for imaging brain chemistry in freely moving rats. The award was featured on the Applied Chemistry website, Faculty of Engineering website, and Faculty of Engineering Instagram. | |
| Our project, “Tank-Mounted Automated Sulfite Sensor for Efficient Wine Production Management and Branding,” was selected by the Inland Japan Innovation Ecosystem (IJIE), one of JST’s regional platform co-creation support programs. The project will be conducted with Assistant Professor Fumie Saito, M2 student Ozawa, and B4 student Uemura of the Institute of Enology and Viticulture. | |
| A management team was formed for our project in the third KSP Deep Tech Studio program. We will work for three months toward commercialization of an automated sulfite sensor for wine production management. | |

Together with students from the Clean Energy course, we spent two enjoyable days at the Yamanashi Prefectural Yatsugatake Youth Outdoor Learning Center and stopped for ice cream at Seisen-Ryo on the way home. | |

Endo gave an oral presentation on dopamine detection and two-dimensional imaging using closed bipolar electrodes with a cathodic luminophore, and Kubota presented on electrochemiluminescence transmission through optical fibers for in vivo analysis. | |

| An article entitled “Bipolar Electrochemical Sensor with Perylene Diimide-Based Cathodic Luminophore for Dopamine Detection and Imaging,” with Tomoki Iwama as first author and K. Y. Inoue as one of the corresponding authors, was published in Talanta. Using perylene diimide (PDI-CH3) as a cathodic ECL luminophore eliminated the large background observed with the ruthenium-complex system reported previously, enabling more sensitive dopamine detection by bipolar electrochemical microscopy. | |

Kubota presented on the relationship between electrochemiluminescence and fluorescence properties of dyes, and Endo presented on Au-paste electrodes for enhancing bipolar electrochemical microscopy signals. | |
| An article entitled “Enhancement of Electrochemiluminescence by Au Paste Electrode for Bipolar Electroanalysis,” authored by Endo, was published in Electrochemistry. The study showed that Au-paste electrodes enhance ECL and provided evidence suggesting a surface-plasmon enhancement effect from Au nanoparticles in the paste. | |

| A collaborative COI Tohoku article entitled “Relationship between Plasma Lipopolysaccharide Concentration and Health Status in Healthy Subjects and Patients with Abnormal Glucose Metabolism in Japan: A Preliminary Cross-Sectional Study,” coauthored by K. Y. Inoue, was published in J. Multidiscip. Res.. The study examines the relationship between plasma endotoxin levels and health status in patients with abnormal glucose metabolism and may support future applications of simple endotoxin sensors. | |

| A refrigerated planetary mill, refrigerated planetary mill LP-M2C (Ito Seisakusho), was installed. It will be used for wet milling of the cathodic ECL luminophore PDI-CH3. Uniformly dispersing fine particles in conductive paste is expected to improve the uniformity and reproducibility of emission from bipolar electrochemical microscopy elements. | |

The study demonstrated a highly sensitive immunoassay using coagulation-cascade amplification, extending our previous dual-amplification approach based on the Limulus cascade and redox cycling in a nanogap electrode. | |
| An article entitled “Detection of Virus-Like Particles Using Magnetostrictive Vibration Energy Harvesting,” with Assistant Professor Daiki Kurita of Professor Fumio Narita’s group at Tohoku University as first author and K. Y. Inoue as one of the corresponding authors, was published in Sensors and Actuators A: Physical. The work demonstrates sensing and energy harvesting with a new magnetostrictive material and may contribute to autonomous environmental virus-detection systems. | |

| Our research achievement, “Microscope Elements for Capturing Molecular Motion Developed by Thermal Drawing,” was announced in a press release from the Tohoku University COI Center.
In collaboration with Assistant Professor Guo and colleagues at Tohoku University, Inoue achieved the world’s first mass production of BEM electrode elements using thermal drawing, a process that applies heat and tension to thermoplastic materials to produce fibers with arbitrary cross-sectional designs. This work was conducted in part through the COI Young Researcher Collaboration Fund. The mass-production technology is expected to accelerate further fundamental studies toward biomolecular imaging. |
